The storm clouds have arrived. The monsoon wouldn't be long coming. While people all around her were rejoicing at the advent of the first rains, she stood alone in the downpour. She had always loved the rains. The feeling of dissolution, of becoming one with the water streaming down her face had always felt liberating. And the additional advantage was that the rains hid the tears which she couldn't hold back any longer. The sadness had enveloped her completely. She remembered what she had said once - "Monsoon is a season of longing". What was she longing for now? Once again she berated the confusion which was a part of her life now. She was supposed to be the independent, practical, modern young lady. When had her resolutions become so weak? As she stood there alone, she realized that there was no turning back on the road she had chosen and if the monsoon was to be her only companion, so be it. With a resolute face, she turned and walked steadily off to the life that was to come.
Cindrella’s Night Out
They walked together holding each other’s hand, with the cold
water of the sea lapping at their feet. It was as if they were the last two
people on the Earth. The shack lights glowed dimly in the distance. The silence
did not bother them. In fact it was companionable now. Words were not required
to express their feelings tonight. Soon they reached the shack where they were
to have dinner. A candle light dinner. Her romantic mind was happy. The food
was good and the company better. In the soft glow of the candlelight there was
an atmosphere of magic. Like a fairytale read long ago. And it was not yet
over. Just as she thought it was time to leave, he asked her for a dance. She
hesitated, unsure of herself. It was then that ‘the’ song started playing. She
looked at him and he nodded. That was it. They were on the dance floor now,
both amateurs but still comfortable with their proximity to each other. It was
a moment of love. Unfortunately the night had to come to an end. But everyone
was happy. The day ended with a cozy hug. It was indeed Cindrella’s night out J .
